The story of Los Kjarkas begins far from the grand stages of the world, in the small town of Capinota in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba. The group was founded in by brothers Wilson, Castel, and Gonzalo Hermosa, alongside Edgar Villarroel. The name "Kjarkas" is rooted in the Quechua word "kharka," which can mean "fear," "reticence," or "tremor". In their early years, the group played a mix of popular music, including Argentine zambas, but they soon began to focus more on traditional Bolivian rhythms like cuecas, huayños, and bailecitos.

3. Evolución, Pérdida y Renovación (Década de 1990)

The 1980s were arguably the most explosive period in the Los Kjarkas discografia, producing albums that would define the genre and achieve continental fame. The decade started with in 1980, which featured early staples like "Pequeño Amor". In 1981, two crucial albums were released: "Desde el Alma de mi Pueblo" and "Canto a la Mujer de mi Pueblo," the latter containing the group's most famous and controversial song, "Llorando Se Fue".

Los Kjarkas (Bolivia, 1971) didn’t just record songs; they codified the sound of the kantus (Andean harmony) and the charango . Their discography is the blueprint for modern Andean music. More importantly, one of their songs became a worldwide pop hit—without most people ever knowing it was theirs.

A tribute to indigenous women. The song "Mujer" became an anthem for Andean feminism.
