The "floating world" was a fantasy in its own right—a place of wit, style, and hedonism. This concept has seen a vibrant modern revival. Contemporary artists and collectives, such as the Tokyo-based group EXCALIBUR, have reimagined Ukiyo-e through a modern lens. They use 8-bit pixel art to create "Ukiyo.e," a playful fusion of traditional aesthetics and retro gaming nostalgia. The group even takes its name from Final Fantasy , referencing the legendary Excalibur as a symbol of shared power and community.
